The potential of clean-label starch

As global food trends shift towards healthier foods, consumers are taking a closer look at the type of products they purchase and their ingredients. These trends drive the demand towards products that are naturally processed, so not containing chemical additives that require labeling as E numbers. In the starch industry, this means that physically-modified starches, 'clean-label' starches, are underway to become preferred products over their chemically-modified counterparts. We want to ensure we are always aware of, and using the latest modification technologies for our potato starch products to answer consumer demands. In this specific case, we need to have a comprehensive overview of new or emerging technologies enabling the physical modification of large biopolymers. This knowledge will enable us to test some technologies, potentially collaborate with the parties developing them and ultimately to produce clean-label starch.
